SonicFox, Tokido earn nominations at The Game Awards
The accolades keep on coming.
Fresh off of their nominations at the Esports Awards, Dominique “SonicFox” McLean and Hajime “Tokido” Taniguchi earned nominations at the upcoming Game Awards (Go vote now!).
Both are up for the Best Esports Player award after a year of amazing finishes. Tokido's 2018 has been highlighted by first place in the ELEAGUE invitational, second place at EVO and a string of first place finishes all over the globe that have landed him at the top of standings in the Capcom Pro Tour.
Since his nomination for the Esports Awards, SonicFox padded his already impressive 2018 résumé with a dominant performance in the Injustice 2 Pro Series Grand Finals last weekend. The top finish joins a packed trophy case full of top finishes in Soulcalibur VI, Skullgirls and Dragon Ball FighterZ - including his dramatic EVO win.
The EVO victory also earned SonicFox a second nomination for Best Esports Moment. The moment came after SonicFox's rival CYC.GO1 had reset the bracket in the grand finals. SonicFox reached for a little known tidbit of the EVO rulebook and requested a side switch before the new series began, which led to a coin toss he won. With his preferred screen position, SonicFox went on to a 3-0 victory.
All three awards will be announced Dec. 6 at the Game Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, Ca. Until then, be sure to vote for our foxes often.
